Muzaffarnagar, Apr 25 (PTI) Police have handed over Rs 4 lakh in cash stacked in a dozen bundles, which was found strewn on the Meerut-Karnal highway in Shamli district, to its owner, officials said on Saturday.
After a local resident informed the police about cash — six bundles of Rs 500 notes, four bundles of Rs 200 notes and two bundles of Rs 100 notes — lying on the road near Kabaraut village on Friday, the police recovered it and deposited it in the police evidence room, Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Shukla said.
Meanwhile, Shubham from Muzaffarnagar district had claimed ownership of the money, saying that the cash fell while he was returning home on a motorcycle after withdrawing it from a bank in Haryana.
Shamli Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh told reporters that during the investigation, the real owner of the cash was found to be Shubham, and Rs 4 lakh in cash was handed over to him on Saturday.
He said that the cash fell on the road while he was returning from Karnal in Haryana to Budhana on a motorcycle on Friday.
The SP said that the police will award Sumit Kumar for good work, who informed the police about the cash. PTI COR CDN NAV SHS SHS
