Nagpur, Apr 25 (PTI) A revenue assistant from the Nagpur collector’s office was caught taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh at his home to facilitate a construction-related matter, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said on Saturday.
Naresh Sadhuraoji Barve (54), a resident of Nandanvan Layout, was allegedly delaying the decision on an appeal concerning proposed construction on a “nazul” plot in the Mahal area of the city, an ACB official said.
“When the complainant questioned the delay, Barve demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to clear the file,” the official said. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, he said.
A nazul plot is government-owned land used for residential, commercial, or institutional purposes.
The anti-graft agency conducted verification procedures on April 17 and April 20, during which it was confirmed that Barve had indeed demanded the bribe, the official said.
The ACB laid a trap on Friday and nabbed Barve accepting Rs 5 lakh at his home from the complainant, the official said, adding that he has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. PTI COR NR
