Ranchi, Apr 21 (PTI) Retired Jharkhand High Court judge, Justice Amitav Kumar Gupta, was on Tuesday sworn in as the state’s new Lokayukta.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office to him during a ceremony at the Lok Bhavan here. Chief Minister Hemant Soren was also present on the occasion along with other dignitaries.
Gupta was appointed the Lokayukta of Jharkhand by the Governor on April 16.
The position of Lokayukta in the state had been vacant for the past couple of years.
The high court had earlier this month directed the Jharkhand government to expedite the appointment process of the Lokayukta and other constitutional authorities.
Born on May 31, 1959, Gupta obtained his LLB from the Campus Law Centre of the University of Delhi, and also pursued post-graduation at the institute.
He joined the Bihar Superior Judicial Service as an additional district judge on June 11, 1997.
In 2013, he was elevated as an additional judge of the Jharkhand High Court and retired on May 30, 2021. PTI SAN RBT
