Mumbai, Apr 28 (PTI) Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday said a revised proposal regarding land for the Shri Vitthal-Rukmini Temple committee in Pandharpur will be submitted within 15 days, paving the way for expansion of its cowshed.
Pandharpur town in Solapur district hosts the famous Vitthal-Rukmini temple on the banks of Chandrabhaga river. Lakhs of ‘warkaris’ converge at the temple annually, particularly during Ashadi Ekadashi, as part of their pilgrimage.
In an official statement issued after a meeting held at the Mantralaya here, Bawankule said, “The district administration has been directed to prepare and submit a revised proposal within the next 15 days so that the land required for the temple committee can be transferred and development work can proceed without delay.” The move concerns the transfer of land near Yamai lake to the temple committee for expanding its existing cowshed, which currently operates on 12 hectares. The committee had sought an additional 3.12 hectares to meet growing requirements.
Proposals in this regard were submitted earlier in 2008 and 2022, but the matter remained pending due to technical issues related to land reservation, including its classification for purposes such as a picnic spot and tank development.
At the meeting, Bawankule directed officials to prioritise development and avoid getting entangled in past technical disputes. He instructed that a revised proposal be prepared promptly, keeping in view the possibility of developing the land as a picnic spot, and be submitted to the government within the stipulated 15-day period.
The meeting was attended by temple trust representatives and senior officials, including district and municipal authorities from Solapur. PTI ND NP
