Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also hit out at Rahul, saying political opposition should not descend into personal attacks on one’s parents or elders.
A controversy erupted after stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani mimicked PM Modi while performing a skit with Gandhi during his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ youth outreach programme in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city on Saturday. The Congress, which shared the video on social media, has defended it as satire/mimicry.
Speaking to reporters in South Goa, Meghwal said Indian culture teaches people to respect their mothers and elders.
“PM Modi’s mother is no longer in this world. The remarks linked to his late mother amounted to an insult to Indian culture. Rahul Gandhi, through ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, insulted Indian culture by speaking lies,” he said.
CM Sawant, in a post on X, dubbed the comedy performance and comments “shameful and deeply disturbing”. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have crossed all limits of political decency, he charged.
“Political opposition is an essential part of democracy, but it should never descend into personal attacks on someone’s parents or elders,” he said.
