Reports said the men tried to “sell” a Rajya Sabha seat for Rs 100 crore.
After intercepting calls, the CBI pounced on the fraudsters, identified as Karmalakar Premkumar Bandgar from Maharashtra, Ravindra Vithal Naik from Karnataka, and Mahendra Pal Arora and Abhishek Boora from Delhi.
The CBI FIR stated: “Karmalakar Premkumar Bandgar, Mahendra Pal Arora, Md. Alaz Khan and Ravindra Vithal Naik often drop names of the senior bureaucrats and political functionaries for impressing upon the client approaching them for some work either directly or through middleman like Abhishek Boora.”
“Abhishek Boora conspired with Karmalakar Premkumar Bandgar to use his connections and reach high-level government officials, who could play a pivotal role in such appointments,” the report added.
The police also said Karmalakar Premkumar Bandgar often posed as a senior CBI officer, and threatened police officers to influence investigation in ongoing cases.
