Gurugram, Apr 14 (PTI) Former MP Raj Babbar on Tuesday expressed support for the demands of striking fire department employees here and said the government should respect their sentiments.

The Congress leader reached the protest site at Sector 29 on the seventh day of the strike and urged the government to meet their demands without delay. He was accompanied by Seema Pahuja, who had contested the Gurugram mayoral election in 2025. The protesting employees presented a letter of their demands to Babbar — including compensation for the families of two firemen who died in a workshop fire in Faridabad’s Mujesar and regarding salary hikes and risk and medical allowances over the past five years.

Babbar justified the strike and recalled the personnel martyred in the Faridabad fire incident. He also promised to speak with the government on their behalf.

“Fire department employees risk their lives to prevent loss of life and property. This is a very dangerous job. For those trapped in a fire, these employees are like god. The government should respect the sentiments of these employees,” the former MP said.

The employees’ strike, following the call of the Fire Department Employees Union affiliated with the Municipal Employees Union of Haryana continued for the seventh day.

The employees paid floral tribute to firefighters Bhavi Chand Sharma and Ranveer Singh and laid flowers at Dr B R Ambedkar’s portrait to mark his birth anniversary. PTI COR PRK
