New Delhi: Days after the Bharat Jodo Yatra concluded in Srinagar, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi urging him to not ‘force’ Kashmiri Pandits to return to Jammu and Kashmir without adequate security measures .

In the letter, which was released on Twitter Friday, Gandhi highlights the ‘targeted killings’ by terrorists of Kashmiri Pandits and other people in the Valley.

“During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, I met a representative from a Kashmiri Pandit organisation, who told me that government officials are forcing them to return to Kashmir for work,” Gandhi wrote.

He also said that without security guarantees it was ‘cruel’ to force Kashmiri Pandits to return to the Valley and they should only be asked to come once the situation improves.

“The government can accommodate Kashmiri Pandit staff in other departments,” the letter further said.

Gandhi’s last public letter was written three weeks ago. It was distributed among people as part of the Congress’ follow-up campaign to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. In this letter, he wrote about the country’s ‘economic crisis’, the “threat to plurality”, joblessness among youth, farm distress and “a corporate capture of the country’s wealth”.
