Question mark hangs over MVA rallies as Patole, Raut speak in different voices

Pune, May 3 (PTI) Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Wednesday made contradictory statements about the MVA’s ongoing rallies with Patole saying that it was not certain whether they would continue.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP and Congress has been organizing `Vajramuth’ (iron fist) rallies across the state to display its solidarity.

But NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s sudden announcement on Tuesday that he was stepping down from his party post and subsequent churn in his party has cast a shadow on the rallies.

Asked whether the rallies would continue, Patole said, “The rains have started, so first there will be a meeting to decide on the rallies. Today it can not be said whether the rallies would take place or not.” Many parts of the state have received unseasonal showers in the last few weeks.

State NCP chief Jayant Patil cited the scorching summer as the reason for the postponement of the rallies.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, on the other hand, said they would continue.

“The May 1 rally took place (in Mumbai), and we are discussing how we should go about the Pune and Nashik rallies in view of the rains. The Kolhapur rally of May 28 will take place as per schedule,” he said.

Arvind Shinde, Pune city Congress chief, said party workers were hopeful that the rally in Pune will take place on May 14. PTI SPK KRK KRK
