Chandigarh, Apr 2 (PTI) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested a sub-divisional officer (SDO) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Malerkotla district.

An official spokesperson said the accused, , Hardeep Singh, was posted at the PSPCL office in Kup Kalan sub-division and was arrested based on a complaint filed by a resident of Bhogiwal village.

The complainant alleged that the SDO, during inspection of his house, found unauthorised electricity meters and demanded Rs 10,000 to allow them to continue.

The complainant recorded the conversation as proof.

Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau conducted a preliminary inquiry and laid a trap, during which the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance Bureau police station in Patiala.

Further investigation is underway. PTI VSD KSS KSS
