Chandigarh, Mar 22 (PTI) Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed three bills including one related to salaries and allowances of chief whip and another limiting the number of non-official members in the state SC commission.
On the concluding day of the budget session of the Punjab assembly here, Parliamentary Affairs minister Inderbir Singh Nijjar moved the ‘the Salaries and Allowances of the Chief Whip in Punjab Legislative Assembly Bill 2023’ in the House.
Last year, the cabinet had given its nod to bring a law to give salary, allowances, and other facilities equivalent to a Cabinet minister to the chief whip of the ruling party.
Talwandi Sabo MLA Baljinder Kaur is the chief whip of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The House also passed ‘the Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes (Amendment) Bill, 2023.’ The bill was moved by Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr Baljit Kaur.
The bill which seeks to amend the ‘Punjab State Commission for Scheduled Castes Act, 2004′ proposes reducing the number of non-official members in the state SC commission, re-fixing the tenure of the office of the chairperson and non-official members of the state commission, and re-fixing the upper age limit for chairperson’s and non-official members’ appointment.
Punjab Agriculture Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal tabled ‘The Punjab Agricultural Produce Markets (Amendment) Bill, 2023’ which was also passed by the assembly. PTI CHS VSD VN VN
