Thane, Aug 7 (PTI) Police in Maharashtra’s Thane city have busted a prostitution racket operating at a hotel in the city with the arrest of a female broker, officials said on Friday.
During the operation conducted on Wednesday at the hotel located on Pokhran Road in Thane West, the police rescued four women.
Madan Ballal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP – Crime), said the female broker was luring financially distressed women under false promises and bringing them to the hotel for commercial sex work.
Acting on the tip-off, an Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) team laid a trap and detained the female broker. It also rescued four women from her custody.
To ensure their safety and welfare, all of them have been placed in a state protection and rehabilitation shelter home, he said.
An FIR was registered at the Vartak Nagar police station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Another female accused has been named as a wanted accused in the case. PTI COR NP
