Private plane carrying 8 people skids off runway at Mumbai airport

BMC issued a statement saying that the incident occurred at domestic airport gate number 5 and that the Mumbai fire brigade and ambulance are assisting on site.

Mumbai: A private plane with eight people onboard skidded off the runway while landing at the Mumbai airport on Thursday. The accident happened at 5.08 pm.

The aircraft was carrying six passengers and two crew members. Details about who the passengers were are still awaited.

“VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai was involved in a runway excursion (veer off) while landing on runway 27 at Mumbai airport. There were 6 passengers and 2 crew members on board. Visibility was 700m with heavy rain. No casualties reported as of now,” the DGCA told news agency ANI.

The Mumbai airport released a statement saying that the airport team is on the ground to assist with the clearance.

ThePrint tried to reach out to a Mumbai airport spokesperson to get more details about the incident, but the calls and text messages remained unanswered.

However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation issued a statement saying that the incident occurred at domestic airport gate number 5 and that the Mumbai fire brigade and ambulance are assisting on site.

“Three injured people are being hospitalised while more details are awaited,” BMC said in the statement.

The Mumbai airport statement also mentioned that the airport operations that were closed post the incident resumed at 6:47pm.
