Mumbai, Apr 14 (PTI) Maharashtra minister Aditi Tatkare on Tuesday promised stringent action after a pre-wedding shoot at the historic Raigad Fort triggered controversy.
In a post on X, Tatkare, who hails from the coastal district, said that she had instructed Raigad Collector Kishan Jawale and Superintendent of Police Aanchal Dalal to initiate action.
The minister also held discussions with officials of the Archaeological Survey of India, including Dr Abhijit Ambekar, and called for immediate framing of guidelines to preserve the sanctity of the fort, an erstwhile capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
A discussion was also held with Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati, chairman of the Raigad Development Authority and a descendant of the iconic warrior king, on prohibiting pre-wedding shoots, photoshoots and private events at the site, the NCP minister said.
Meanwhile, in a post on X, Sambhaji Chhatrapati asked, “Is it necessary to impose rules for everything when it comes to Raigad Fort? Do we not have any sense of moral responsibility and social awareness?” Many couples visit the fort before and after their marriage, and there is nothing wrong with that, he said.
“However, it is increasingly evident that such visits are now turning into organised events. Incidents of pre- and post-wedding shoots and similar activities taking place at the Raj Sadar and the sacred samadhi site have risen significantly,” he said.
Meanwhile, when asked if any action will be taken against those involved in the photo-shoot, SP Aanchal Dalal said the police have sent a proposal to the collector. PTI MR DC KRK
