New Delhi: The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) achieved a significant milestone by reaching sales worth Rs. 1000 Crores in October 2024. This target, which was met in December 2023 in the previous year, underscores the growing popularity and trust in the program, a PIB press release stated.

The public’s positive response to the PMBJP initiative has been instrumental in its success. Citizens have embraced the program by purchasing medicines from over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country. The PMBJP aims to make healthcare accessible and affordable for all by reducing out-of-pocket expenses.

The PMBJP has witnessed significant growth in the past decade, with the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras increasing more than 170 times from 80 in 2014 to over 14,000 today, covering almost all districts in India. The program’s product basket includes 2047 medicines and 300 surgical devices, covering major therapeutic groups such as cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetics, anti-infectives, and gastrointestinal medicines.

The government plans to expand the network to 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the next two years. Currently, these Kendras attract nearly one million visitors daily. The PMBJP’s record-breaking sales not only highlight the program’s success but also its role in promoting health equity across the country.
