Vizianagaram: The probe into the Vizianagaram terror case is being transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and necessary formalities for the handover are underway, said police on Monday.

The Andhra Pradesh Police and their Telangana counterparts held a joint operation on May 17 that led to the arrest of Siraj Ur Rehman (29) and Syed Sameer (28), for allegedly conspiring to carry out bomb blasts in Vizianagaram and other parts of the state.

Rehman from Vizianagaram was detained following a tip-off. Explosives, including ammonia, sulphur, and aluminium powder, were seized from his premises during a search.

During the course of the investigation, Rehman disclosed details leading to the detention of Sameer from Hyderabad.

“All necessary formalities are likely to be completed today, after which the case will be officially handed over to the NIA’s Visakhapatnam branch for further probe, Vizianagaram Superintendent of Police, Vakul Jindal told PTI.

Following the MHA’s orders, the DGP received an official communication from the NIA. Subsequently, on Friday, the DGP instructed Jindal to initiate the process of handing over the case.

The police seized explosives, including some pipes with Rehman, which are allegedly intended for use in making an explosive device.

Police said both are under judicial custody in Visakhapatnam Central Jail.
