Hamirpur (HP), Apr 16 (PTI) A local court on Thursday sent the uncle and brother of BJP MLA Ashish Sharma to two-day police remand in connection with the Poong Khad illegal mining case.

The anticipatory bail pleas of the two accused were earlier rejected by the Himachal Pradesh High Court and later by the Supreme Court.

On March 19, the apex court directed them to surrender within four weeks.

The accused, Umesh Sharma and Praveen Sharma, surrendered in the court of the chief judicial magistrate on Wednesday evening and were sent to one-day police remand.

They were produced before a court in Hamirpur on Thursday, which extended their remand by two days, officials said.

The case pertains to alleged illegal mining in Poong Khad of Hamirpur district, involving a stone crusher unit linked to the MLA’s family.

SP Balveer Singh Thakur said a case was registered at Sujanpur police station in this matter.

The accused will be produced in court again on Saturday. PTI COR BPL PRK
