Medininagar, Apr 3 (PTI) Police arrested two persons following a brief encounter in connection with the murder of a businessman in Jharkhand’s Palamu district on Friday, an official said.

One of the accused, identified as Faiz Khan, sustained two bullet injuries to his legs, he said.

The encounter took place in the Panki-Terhasi police station area.

“Following a tip-off, police reached the area to arrest them. As they came face to face with police, Khan fired at the security personnel, leading to an exchange of fire in which he suffered two gunshot wounds in his legs,” Palamu SDPO Rajeev Ranjan told PTI.

He was immediately rushed to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for treatment, he added.

The deceased businessman, Sameer Khalifa alias Guddu (36), of Kanji House Colony, was shot dead by three unidentified miscreants around 10:45 pm on Thursday at Palika Bazaar.

“They shot him in the head. They also fired 5 to 6 rounds in the air to create terror among the people present in the area,” Town police station in-charge Jyoti Lal Rajwar said.

He said the victim was rushed to (MMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The victim was engaged in land business for a long time and also ran a wholesale bag-trading business. When the incident occurred, he was accompanied by Israel Azad, alias Mintu, and another man, the OC said.

The reason behind the murder could not be ascertained yet. An investigation into the matter is underway, police said. PTI RPS COR RPS RG RPS MNB
