New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched and laid the foundation stone for multiple healthcare projects worth over Rs. 12,850 crore at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi. The inauguration ceremony, coinciding with Dhanvantari Jayanti and the 9th Ayurveda Day, marked a significant push to bolster healthcare infrastructure across India, a PIB press release stated.
Among the inaugurated projects are seven initiatives by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) worth Rs. 1,641 crore. These include a new ESIC Hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and the foundation stones for six additional hospitals in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the significant progress made in India’s healthcare sector in the past decade, comparing it favorably to the previous six to seven decades. He cited the numerous new AIIMS and medical colleges established during this period as evidence of this progress.
Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the transformative impact of Prime Minister Modi’s vision, which has integrated healthcare into India’s development strategy. He highlighted the expansion of the ESIC network from 393 districts in 2014 to 674 districts in 2024, as well as the doubling of ESIC beneficiaries during the same period. Dr. Mandaviya also announced the upcoming integration of ESIC with Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), which will further expand healthcare access for ESIC beneficiaries.
The six new ESI hospitals will be equipped with modern facilities, including Modular Operation Theatre Complexes, Intensive Care Units, Labour Room Complexes, NICU, PICU, and advanced imaging services. They will cater to both outpatient and inpatient services.
