Noida (UP), Jul 3 (PTI) A video purportedly showing a portion of plaster falling from the false ceiling of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Child PGI hospital in Sector 30 here has gone viral on social media, prompting the hospital administration to order repairs.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening.

The viral video showed hospital staff clearing debris from the floor and an empty patient bed inside the ward.

In the video, a person questioned who would have been responsible had a child been on the bed and expressed concern that the plaster could have fallen on an infant.

Child PGI Director Dr AK Singh told PTI that a piece of plaster from the false ceiling fell onto a bed, but no child was occupying it at the time, and no one was injured.

“We have directed that the plaster false ceiling be replaced with thermocol or plastic panels so that even if any portion comes loose, it does not cause injuries,” Singh said.

Responding to questions about reports of broken false ceilings, seepage and overhead air-conditioner cables in other parts of the hospital, Singh said the issues would be inspected and necessary repairs carried out.

An eyewitness claimed that a 19-month-old girl, admitted to the NICU on June 30 with a fever, narrowly escaped injury as she was away from the bed when the plaster fell.

Police or hospital authorities have not independently verified the claim. PTI COR KIS ASD ASD
