Panaji, May 7 (PTI) The Goa tourism department has said a viral video showing a woman gasping for breath during a parasailing accident was not recent and was not filmed in the state, as some reports claimed, but dates back to 2019 in neighbouring Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.

Several media websites on Wednesday carried a video of Instagram user Sushmitha Gowrav recounting her experience, cautioning others to be mindful before engaging in adventure water sports.

She said that she fell into the sea after the parasailing rope tightened around her neck, triggering a panic situation. She claimed the incident occurred in Goa.

Responding to it, the Goa tourism department, in a statement issued on Wednesday, denied reports circulated in the media claiming that the parasailing incident took place on one of its beaches.

“According to the Goa Police, the incident dates back to 2019 and did not occur within the jurisdiction of the state,” the tourism department said.

A senior tourism department official said the incident occurred in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district neighbouring Goa.

The public is requested to avoid believing or sharing unverified reports that may create fear in the minds of tourists without proper fact-checking, the department said.

Goa Tourism continues to ensure that its beaches remain safe for all tourists, subject to adherence to strict local guidelines and respect for seasonal ocean conditions, it added. PTI RPS GK
