New Delhi: Taking cognisance of a video on social media of a woman complaining that a restaurant near Greater Noida delivered her a non-vegetarian biryani when she had ordered a vegetarian one, the Noida police Monday called in a staff member of the facility for questioning.

In the video put up on Instagram Sunday, the woman accuses the restaurant of intentionally sending her the non-veg food during the festival of Navratri. The video is viral on social media.

“I had ordered vegetarian biryani through Swiggy. The name of the restaurant is ‘Lucknowi Kabab Parantha’… in Sector 2, Bisrakh. I have received a non-veg biryani,” the woman, identified as Chhaya Sharma, says, showing the non-vegetarian biryani delivered.

“I have even eaten one-two bites from this,” she adds tearfully, saying she is a “pure vegetarian girl”. “During Navratri, they have sent this intentionally,” she alleges.

The woman also shared a screenshot of her order, which shows she had ordered a ‘Muradabadi veg biryani’ from the restaurant on 4 April. The post has the hashtags Hindu, vegetarian, pandit, and scam.

Speaking to ThePrint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shakti Mohan Avasthy said “we have taken suo motu cognisance of the matter”.

“The video is viral on social media. Based on it, we have launched an inquiry. We have called one of the staff who manages the restaurant for questioning,” he added.

So far, no first information report has been lodged in the matter. The DCP also said the woman hasn’t given a statement.

When ThePrint called the restaurant on the number listed online, the message that there was no incoming call facility on the number was relayed.

The woman also commented that the restaurant was marked as “pure vegetarian” on Swiggy and that this is why she had ordered the veg biryani from there, and that she later visited the facility herself and found that it served non-vegetarian food. She further alleged that when she confronted the restaurant staff, she was informed that the manager had ordered to pack the particular food item.

  1. Most of the delivery agents are not english medium educated, it is the responsibility of food making house to ensure the package before handing over to the agent. Poor thing the hardworking individual gets to take the heat.

  2. We are steadily on the way to becoming the stupidest country in the world. Looks like the police have solved all other crimes. 30,000 women get raped in India every year, most of them unsolved. But the actual crime is someone getting their take-out order wrong.

  3. How does a restaurant called Lucknowi’Kebab’ Paratha get marked as pure veg on swiggy? Was the chicken biryani on the menu? If so that is even more questionable if the restaurant was marked as pure veg? It looks like a Swiggy mistake. Why are the police leaving them out of it?
