New Delhi: Opposition parties discussed a proposal Tuesday to bring a no-confidence motion against the central government, news agency ANI said quoting sources.
Floor leaders of all Opposition parties – going by the collective acronym INDIA – met Tuesday to discuss the strategy ahead amid the ongoing logjam in Parliament following their demand for a detailed discussion on the violence in Manipur and a “comprehensive statement” on the issue by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The government has so far offered a short-duration discussion but rejected one under Rule 267 – as demanded by the Opposition – which also entails voting.
The INDIA meeting was held in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Meanwhile, both Houses of Parliament were adjourned in the first half Tuesday — continuing the stalemate that began on the first day of the Monsoon Session on 20 July. The present session will continue till 11 August.
In the beginning of Tuesday’s proceedings, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also told the House that the government was ready to discuss “the 177 notices of atrocities against women and children in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh”. “All over the country, if there is crime against women. The government is ready. We should have discussions on these issues,” he added.
