Jaisalmer: Police in Rajasthan’s Barmer arrested a person Friday night for making and posting on social media a video of army movement.

According to the police, a special cyber patrolling and surveillance campaign is being conducted and the action was part of that.

The surveillance campaign is meant to ensure compliance with orders of the government of India regarding prohibiting the dissemination of any kind of photos or videos related to army activities on social media in the backdrop of surging tensions with Pakistan.

Jiyaram, 22, a resident of Gida Halka area of Balotra district, had posted a video of the movement of the Indian Army on social media, after which the police team took immediate action and arrested him under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, the police said.

Under the section, police can arrest without a warrant or orders from a magistrate to prevent the commission of a cognisable offence.

The Barmer police have appealed to people to not post anything about the movement of the forces on social media and have informed that they are monitoring such activities.

Barmer has been among the locations targeted by Pakistan via drones. The whole district was under blackout Friday night and the administration appealed to people to stay at home.
