Number of internet subscribers in India rise up to 95.4 crore

While broadband connections jumped by 7.8 crore, the number of telephone subscribers remained the same.

New Delhi: A significant growth in the number of internet subscribers in India in the past year, a PIB release stated. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the total number of internet subscribers increased to 95.4 crore in March 2024, up from 88.1 crore in March 2023.

The number of broadband subscribers also increased from 84.6 crore in March 2023 to 92.4 crore in March 2024, reflecting a robust growth rate of 9.15%. This significant increase of 7.8 Crore new subscribers underscores the growing importance of high-speed connectivity, the release added.

However, the number of telephone subscribers in the country remained unchanged at 119.9 crore in March 2024. While the overall tele-density increased from 84.51 percent in March 2023 to 85.69 percent in March 2024, the growth rate was 2.30 percent.
