New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered strict action against the unidentified miscreants behind Monday night’s blast outside the Punjab Police’s intelligence wing headquarters in Mohali.

Mann said anyone trying to disturb the peace in the state would not be spared.

The Chief Minister met the police top brass in the morning and sought a report on the explosion that had shattered the windowpanes of a floor.

Mann said ongoing investigations would make things clearer by the evening.

A rocket-propelled grenade hit the Intelligence Wing headquarters of the Punjab Police in Sector 77, Mohali around 7.45 pm on Monday. Unidentified persons threw an object near the office, an official present inside the Intel headquarters said, according to news agency PTI.

No one was injured in the explosion, which was the result of a “rocket-type fire”, the police said.

The intelligence office has been under heavy security since the blast with a team of commandos patrolling the area.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, whose Aam Aadmi Party is in power in Punjab, termed the explosion a “cowardly act” and said the state government would ensure thorough action against the miscreants.

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has urged Bhagwant Mann to take strict action against the culprits.

Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said the explosion was a “sign of deep communalism”.

Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said the blast had exposed “serious security lapses” and highlighted “the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab”.
