Mangaluru (Karnataka), Apr 28 (PTI) NITK on Tuesday said it has partnered with GAIL Gas Limited to introduce PNG across its campus, beginning with the Brahmagiri Hostel mess.
The facility was inaugurated on Monday, marking a shift from conventional LPG usage to a cleaner and more efficient fuel system, it said.
The event was attended by National Institute of Technology Karnataka Director Prof B Ravi, senior institute officials, and representatives from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board and GAIL Gas Limited.
Institute authorities said the adoption of Piped Natural Gas is part of a broader effort to enhance sustainability, safety, and operational efficiency on campus.
Residential quarters have already been connected to the PNG network, ensuring an uninterrupted fuel supply to households.
The Brahmagiri Hostel mess is the first commercial unit on campus to transition to PNG, with nearly 20 other establishments—including messes and canteens—set to be covered in a phased rollout.
Officials said the initiative is expected to reduce environmental impact while improving fuel management, aligning with the institute’s long-term infrastructure goals. PTI COR AMP SSK
