New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Wednesday charged fugitive gangster Goldy Brar and 11 others in connection with the murder of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
Gogamedi was shot at in his Jaipur residence on 5 December last year, and later succumbed to his injuries.
While the Rajasthan Police initially handled the case and made arrests, it was later transferred to the NIA which started probing a “terrorist-gangster nexus” behind the killing. Two others, Naveen Shekhawat and Ajeet Singh, were also killed and Gogamedi’s gunman Narender Singh was injured in the attack.
The two shooters — Nitin ‘Fauji’ and Rohit Rathore — along with their alleged associate Uddham Singh were arrested by a joint team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Rajasthan Police from a hotel in Chandigarh’s Sector 22 days after the killing.
“NIA investigations have revealed the notorious terrorist-gangster syndicate behind the killing of Gogamedi, who was shot dead in Jaipur,” the agency said in a statement.
While eight people have been arrested by the agency so far in the case, four others — Mahendra Kumar, Ravataram Swami alias Rohit Godara, Virendra Charan as well as Satwinder Singh alias Goldy Brar — are absconding. Brar is a designated terrorist.
“In its chargesheet filed before the NIA Special Court, Jaipur, the NIA has charged all the 12 identified accused, belonging to Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, under various sections of IPC, Arms Act and UA(P) Act,” the agency said.
ThePrint had earlier reported how the killing was planned and how gangster Rohit Godara was allegedly behind the attack.
“Investigations have revealed that accused Rohit Godara was the mastermind who had hatched the murder conspiracy along with accused Virendra Charan, Goldy Brar and others. Godara and Brar accepted responsibility of the murder and used it to threaten and extort money from other individuals,” the NIA said.
According to the agency, accused Mahendra Kumar and his wife and co-accused Puja Saini had sheltered Nitin Fauji before the murder. Nitin was hired for the murder by another accused in the case, Rahul, in connivance with one Bhawani Singh.
The NIA has stated that Udham Singh, along with co-accused Bhawani Singh and Rahul, had sent Nitin to Jaipur to carry out the crime. Bhawani was provided weapons and shelter by another accused, Ashok Kumar. Yet another accused, Rambeer, had also given shelter to Nitin.
“Further investigations are in progress and a search is on for the absconders,” the agency stated.
