Mumbai, Apr 3 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Sunetra Pawar and her son Parth met their party’s senior leader Praful Patel at the latter’s residence in New Delhi, a party spokesperson said on Friday.

The meeting took place on Thursday night, he said.

The meeting assumes significance as Parth Pawar on Thursday dubbed as “unfounded and speculative” the reports targeting Praful Patel, who is NCP’s working president, and Sunil Tatkare, its Maharashtra unit chief, that they tried to take over the party after the death of then Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28.

Parth’s statement came amid speculation that Sunetra Pawar was upset with Patel and Tatkare.

NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar had last week claimed that Sunetra Pawar had written to the Election Commission of India on March 10, intimating the poll body about her appointment as party president and stating that any earlier communication received from the party after her husband Ajit Pawar’s death should be ignored.

As per the political grapevine, Sunetra Pawar was not convinced by the clarification Patel and Tatkare gave regarding a letter sent to the ECI before she took over as party chief.

Patel and Tatkare had written to the ECI on February 16, informing that the party constitution had been amended and all powers given to working president Praful Patel, Rohit Pawar claimed, alleging that they were trying to seize control of the party.

NCP spokesperson Anand Paranjpe said Sunetra Pawar, Parth and Patel met on Thursday night at the latter’s place in the national capital.

While Parth has recently been elected as a Rajya Sabha member, the NCP has inducted his younger brother Jay Pawar into the ‘apex committee’ of the party, marking his formal entry into politics.
