Gurugram, Jul 3 (PTI) Two police officials were suspended and departmental inquiries initiated against a head constable and a SHO in Gurugram after an accused arrested in Madhya Pradesh escaped from their custody, officials said on Friday.

According to the police, in connection with a fraud case registered in Sector-14 police station in January this year, a police team had travelled to Madhya Pradesh in the complainant’s private vehicle to apprehend the accused, Prakash Razzaq. After taking the accused into custody, the police were bringing him back to Gurugram for interrogation and further legal proceedings.

On Wednesday, while the vehicle was being refuelled at a petrol pump in the Garoth town of Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district the accused fled with the four-wheeler. He abandoned it a short distance away and escaped into the forest. The accused’s father was also present in the vehicle at the time, they added.

Taking cognizance of the matter, Gurugram Police senior officials initiated action against the responsible personnel after a preliminary inquiry revealed negligence in the line of duty and the use of the complainant’s private vehicle by the police team, they said.

“Based on the inquiry report, two police personnel were suspended with immediate effect. Additionally, orders have been issued to initiate a departmental inquiry against the Moharrar head constable and the SHO of the Sector-14 police station. A detailed investigation into the matter is underway, and strict action in accordance with the rules will be taken against any officer or employee found guilty”, said a senior police officer.
