Indore, Apr 21 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari claimed on Tuesday that police registered an FIR against three workers of the party for sharing a letter of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on social media regarding women’s reservation.
Police have not confirmed whether the FIR has been registered.
Earlier, Congress Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha stated in a post on ‘X’, claiming the Madhya Pradesh Cyber Police have detained three workers of the Congress IT cell in Bhopal for the past 27 hours without any valid reason.
Tankha said he would challenge the matter in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
A letter, purportedly criticising the BJP’s stance on issues such as the women’s reservation bill, in the name of Vasundhara Raje, went viral on social media. She had dismissed it as fake.
Patwari said Raje’s letter is not merely a political statement, but a document that points to a serious issue, such as potential illegal delimitation under the guise of women’s reservation.
He said the FIR filed against Congress workers in Madhya Pradesh is a matter of concern for democracy, which reflects the BJP government’s intolerance and fear.
Patwari questioned why action is being taken only against selected Congress workers when the same letter has been shared by millions on social media.
The Congress leader expressed surprise that the letter, written on April 15, was refuted by Raje within a few days of its publication and widespread discussion.
Tankha expressed surprise and disappointment over the alleged detention of three Congress workers over a post by Vasundhara Raje that was viewed and shared by millions.
Tankha said that if they were not released, he would challenge this “illegal arrest and process” before the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
“The detention of Madhya Pradesh Congress workers in the name of the Rajasthan Police is objectionable,” he added. PTI BNS MAS NSK
