Seraikela, Apr 25 (PTI) A woman and her teenage daughter were killed while two other family members injured in an attack by a herd of elephants in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district, a police officer said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Hadat village under Sodo panchayat when a herd of wild elephants entered the village late on Friday night and damaged some houses, the police officer said.

Five members of a family were trapped under the debris.

Villagers assembled on the spot on hearing the screams, but could not dare to chase the violent pachyderms.

The forest officials have provided an interim relief of Rs one lakh each to the victim’s family and Rs 10,000 each to the injured, the police officer added.
