Bengaluru: In a security breach, a boy jumped the barricades Thursday and tried to garland Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was waving at crowds lined up along the road to greet him in Hubballi, about 500 kms from Bengaluru. PM Modi was in Karnataka to flag off the National Youth Festival in the poll-bound state.
In videos of the incident, the Prime Minister can be seen taking the garland even as the security detail around him quickly pulls the boy away from the convoy. The minor was later removed from the spot by two police constables on guard.
“He is a juvenile whose age I have been told is around 10-11. So, out of his enthusiasm, he suddenly jumped which was duly stopped by security teams,” Raman Gupta, the police commissioner of Hubballi-Dharwad, told ThePrint Thursday evening.
He said that the crowd was “well frisked and sanitised” , and that it was not a “big incident”, adding, “Of course, he came (jumped) and the barricade was there for the entire route of around 8-9 kms. The entire route is barricaded and everything is as per protocol.”
He added that the police are conducting an inquiry into the incident involving the security breach. The Basavaraj Bommai-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had deployed around 3,000 policemen for the event.
