Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday address two rallies in North 24 Parganas and Hooghly districts and participate in a road show in Kolkata to galvanise support for BJP candidates in the last phase of assembly elections in West Bengal.

His first rally will be at Thakurnagar, a stronghold of the Matua community, in North 24 Parganas around 2.15 pm, a senior BJP leader said.

He would then travel to Hooghly district, where he will hold another rally in Haripal area around 3.45 pm.

In the evening, Modi will spearhead a high-profile road show in Kolkata. It is expected to commence from B K Pal Avenue and conclude at Khanna Crossing, traversing the northern parts of the city, the BJP leader said.

It is likely to begin around 5.30 pm and conclude by 7.30 pm, with traffic disruptions anticipated in several areas along the route.

Polling in the first phase, held on April 23 across 152 constituencies, recorded a voter turnout of 93 per cent.

The remaining 142 seats will go to polls in the second phase on April 29, with the Election Commission ensuring tight security, including the deployment of central forces.

Modi has undertaken several visits to the state in recent weeks, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also been actively overseeing the party’s campaign on the ground. PTI SUS ACD
