Mathura: The Mathura Police Thursday prevented a potentially volatile situation from escalating during the annual Ram Navami procession. A video being circulated, allegedly recorded during the procession, showed a group of youth waving saffron flags from the rooftops of shops located in Chowk Bazar, near the Jama Masjid area of the city. This caused concern among some members of the Muslim community, who also accused the youth of attempting to hoist saffron flags on the mosque.

In response, members of the Muslim community gathered at the scene, but the police were quick to act.

The video shows a youth standing on a rooftop, waving a saffron flag. As the video progresses, more people from the procession on the street below climb up to the rooftop and join him in waving flags.

According to the police, they persuaded the youth to climb down and deployed additional policemen in the area to maintain order and prevent any potential violence. Mathura’s Superintendent of Police (City), M.P. Singh and City Magistrate Saurabh Dubey, ensured safe passage of the procession.

No complaints have been filed with the police, and no FIR has been registered at this time, Singh confirmed to ThePrint.
