Saharsa, Jul 3 (PTI) One person was arrested for allegedly “influencing” investigations in Bihar’s Saharsa district, while the authorities suspended 10 police officers for their suspected “complicity”, a senior officer said on Friday.
The action followed an inquiry after a video showing an individual allegedly interfering in police investigations went viral on social media, he added.
“The man named Satish Kumar, a resident of Bahuwarwa village who is accused of influencing police investigations and acting as a middleman at Salkhua police station in Bihar’s Saharsa district, has been arrested. Ten police officers found complicit in the matter have also been suspended,” Koshi Range DIG Kumar Ashish told reporters.
He said that the police action is in accordance with the instructions of the DGP.
Police intercepted a man riding a motorcycle near a temple in Gauspur on Thursday and identified him as the same person seen in the viral video, he added.
“A search of his bag led to the recovery of a laptop, keyboard, mouse and original case files belonging to several investigating officers. It was found that the man had been moving around police stations and taking money from the public,” Ashish said.
Several case files were found on Kumar’s laptop and he was apparently involved in writing police diaries and forwarding them to others, the DIG added.
A case has been registered against him at Salkhua police station under various sections of the BNS.
“The 10 investigating officers whose files were found with the accused and who were found to be complicit have been suspended with immediate effect and sent to the police lines,” Ashish said.
Departmental proceedings would also be initiated against them and the police would ensure “the strictest possible punishment” against those found guilty, he added.
The DIG said the role of other people linked to the case was also being investigated, and action would be taken promptly against anyone else found involved. PTI CORR SUK NN
