Dehradun, Mar 8 (PTI) A man-eater leopard involved in several attacks on locals in the outskirts of the state capital was finally caged by a forest department team on Thursday.
A hunt was on for the last two months to capture the leopard which had killed two children in Singli and Galjwadi areas earlier. Two special teams, constituted by the forest department, patrolled the Singli area of Raipur range in the district where the leopard was seen roaming.
It is an adult leopard aged 5-6 years, Mussoorie DFO Vaibhav Kumar said.
Twelve cages, 40 camera traps and four live cameras had been put up in the area to spot the leopard, he said.
Villagers of the area who were living under fear of the big cat for the last few months had a sigh of relief after news about the capture of the man eater reached them, Zilla Panchayat vice president Dipak Pundir said. PTI ALM ALM VN VN
