Ranchi, Feb 17 (PTI) A man was dragged on the bonnet of a speeding car in broad daylight here on Tuesday, police said, as a purported video of the dramatic over 40-second episode surfaced on social media.

The incident occurred near Rajendra Chowk within Doranda police station limits, the official said.

PTI, however, could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Doranda police station in-charge Deepika Prasad said, “The incident has happened and police have taken cognisance. It is being investigated.” Police identified the driver as Manoj Tandon, an advocate of the Jharkhand High Court, and said the matter was later resolved between the parties.

Tandon claimed the biker had suddenly come from the wrong side.

“The biker suddenly came in front of my car from the wrong side, causing a slight knock. Neither the biker was injured nor his bike was damaged. I was harassed and abused by a mob, who wanted me to come out of the car,” he said.

“I could save myself by staying locked inside the car while the police helplessly tried to escort me to the police station. There was no choice but to leave the spot; otherwise, I would have faced death,” he stated.

Defending Tandon, Jharkhand State Bar Council’s outgoing chairman Rajendra Krishna alleged that the advocate was at risk of being lynched.

“There was no alternative but to flee the spot to save his life,” he said.

In the viral video, the victim, wearing a helmet, can be seen pleading with the driver of the Mercedes: “What will happen if I fall? Hey, I’ll die, man! Stop the car, stop it! I’ll sue this guy.” PTI RPS RPS MNB
