Bhadohi (UP), May 7 (PTI) A man has been booked here for allegedly cheating a Dalit family of Rs 3.5 lakh by providing a fake government appointment letter bearing the seal of the Uttar Pradesh government and purported signatures of the District Magistrate of Fatehpur.
Police said complainant Shiv Prakash alleged that accused Virendra Kumar Yadav promised to secure a government job for his graduate son, Dheeraj Kumar, and took Rs 3.5 lakh from the family in 2020.
According to SP Abhinav Tyagi, the accused later handed over a forged appointment letter showing Dheeraj’s contractual appointment as a peon in the Fatehpur district magistrate’s office with a monthly salary of Rs 30,000.
The fraud came to light when Dheeraj visited the office in Fatehpur, where officials informed him that no such recruitment had taken place and the letter was fake. Police said the accused allegedly threatened the family when they demanded their money back. Following a court order, an FIR has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST Act at Suriyawan police station.
