Kolkata, Apr 14 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee prayed at the Kalighat temple in Kolkata on the eve of Bengali New Year.

Banerjee went to the temple, located near her house in south Kolkata, on Tuesday evening after addressing multiple election rallies throughout the day.

At the temple, she performed arti in front of the idol of Goddess Kali.

Bengalis across the world will celebrate ‘Nabo Barsho’ or New Year on Wednesday, the first day of the calendar year 1433.

The Kalighat temple is one of the 51 ‘Shakta Pithas’.

Elections to the 294-member assembly will be held in two phases, on April 23 and 29, and the votes will be counted on May 4. PTI SUS SOM
