Mumbai, Jul 3 (PTI) Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar on Friday announced that a committee will be constituted to recommend reforms to streamline government employee transfers, ensure speedy disposal of official files and improve transparency in administration.

Shelar, who heads the general administration department, informed the assembly that the committee will comprise members of both Houses of the state legislature.

The announcement came during a discussion on a private member’s bill moved by senior BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar seeking amendments to the law governing transfers of government employees and delays in discharge of official duties.

Mungantiwar proposed that transfers be carried out within the prescribed timeframe using artificial intelligence (AI) and sought the formation of a committee to study the issue.

He also demanded that ministers’ offices be mandated to dispose of official files within 45 days.

Replying to the discussion, Shelar said that the state had introduced a framework for regulating transfers in 2005 and had subsequently amended it from time to time to improve transparency.

The government has also begun using AI in file disposal to make administrative processes faster and more transparent, he said.

Shelar said a committee of members from both the assembly and council would be constituted to make recommendations to streamline transfers, improve transparency and ensure faster disposal of official files. PTI MR ARU
