Thane, Oct 2 (PTI) Maharashtra Environment Minister Pankaja Munde on Friday launched the ‘Maha r-PET Bottle & Stickers’ initiative aimed at large scale plastic recycling.

Public participation is vital to plastic recycling initiatives across the state, she said while pointing out that maintaining ecological balance and curbing the growing impact of plastic is the need of the hour.

“The plastic recycling mission is being executed with the support of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) without spending a single rupee from the state exchequer. While plastic seems imperishable, its environmental hazards are severe, making recycling drives crucial across 13 designated locations in Maharashtra,” Munde said.

“The Environment Department is actively spreading awareness through photos, videos, and social media. However, rights and duties are two sides of the same coin. Instead of merely wiping the mirror, we must remove the stain itself,” Munde said while urging every citizen to actively participate under the banner of ‘One Bottle for the Environment’.

MLA Madhavi Naik expressed pride that the state’s inaugural project was being launched from Thane, while MLC Niranjan Davkhare asked corporate entities to take a lead in efforts to reduce pollution.

MPCB member-secretary Rahul Rekhawar explained that the initial framework for the project was laid in Mumbai in February 2026.

“Through meticulous planning, the recycling drive aims to reach grassroots communities to significantly cut down plastic usage, reaffirming the state’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2047 under the ‘LiFE’ (Lifestyle for Environment) vision,” he added. PTI COR BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
