New Delhi: A former student of forensic science and her ex-boyfriend allegedly engineered a fire ‘accident’ to kill her live-in partner in Delhi, because, she claims, he had made some obscene videos of her that he refused to delete. The victim, 32-year-old Ram Kesh Meena, an UPSC aspirant, was found charred to death in his house in north Delhi’s Gandhi Vihar on 6 October.
The Delhi Police have arrested the three people—Amrita Chauhan, Sumit Kashyap and his friend Sandeep Kumar—from Moradabad. They had fled after the incident.
Amrita, 21, formerly a forensic science student who often watched crime series, allegedly decided to kill her partner by making his death look like an accident. She was helped by her ex-boyfriend Kashyap (27), an LPG gas distributor, and friend Sandeep Kumar (29), who was preparing for the Staff Selection Commission exam.
“She alleged that the deceased made obscene videos and photos and stored the same in a hard disc. When she got to know about these videos, she asked him to delete these videos but the deceased made a false and fabricated story and refused to delete those videos. She told her ex-boyfriend about it and this angered Kashyap who decided to take revenge. A conspiracy was hatched to take the hard disc back and kill him,” DCP (North) Raja Banthia said.
According to the police, Amrita, Kashyap (the ex-boyfriend) and Sandeep Kumar (friend) beat Meena and strangled him. They then allegedly poured oil, ghee and wine over his body.
After this, the accused took away the hard disc (allegedly with the obscene pictures and videos), two laptops and some other belongings of the deceased from his house.
Then Kashyap used his knowledge of LPG cylinders to cause a blast. “Sumit Kashyap took out the gas cylinder from the kitchen and placed it near the head of the deceased after opening the knob of the regulator. He then ignited the fire with a lighter causing the blast. The victim’s body was burnt.” DCP Banthia said.
“This fire incident took place just after the departure of these persons. The family of the deceased raised suspicions over the incident,” DCP Banthia said.
According to the police, after the 32-year-old’s death, the investigating team scanned the CCTV footage. It showed two persons with muffled faces entering the deceased’s house in Gandhi Vihar after 2 am on the intervening night of 5-6 October. After 39 minutes, one person was seen coming out of the building, followed soon after by Chauhan and another person at 2:57 am.
Investigators collected call detail records of Amrita and analysis revealed that at the time of the incident, she was near the house. However, when the police tried to call the student later, her phone was switched off.
“Multiple raids were conducted at all possible locations in Moradabad. On 18 October 2025, Amrita Chauhan was apprehended. She was thoroughly interrogated in which she confessed about the commission of crime with co-accused Sumit Kashyap (her ex-boyfriend) and Sandeep Kumar. She alleged that the deceased had one hard disc containing her obscene videos and images,” the DCP said.
Investigators have seized one hard disc, a trolley bag and shirt of the deceased. On 21 October, Kashyap was also nabbed from Moradabad. Two days later, Kumar was also arrested.
Amrita and the victim had met in May. As per the police, they became friends and later started living together in the house where Meena was allegedly murdered.
