New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) Lok Sabha was adjourned on Thursday till April 16 amid indications that the government may bring a bill to increase seats in Lok Sabha and state assemblies to implement the women’s reservation law.
The Lower House was adjourned soon after the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026 was passed by voice vote.
Speaker Om Birla said this morning he received a request from Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to reconvene the House on April 16 for urgent government business.
He said there will be no Question Hour, Zero Hour, private members’ business, when the House reconvenes. According to sources, the two Houses will reconvene for three days from April 16 to take up the proposed legislations.
This was the second half of the Budget Session and the House usually adjourns sine die at the end of it. The House normally meets in the Monsoon Session after this.
However, there have been indications from the government side that it wants the House to assemble on April 16 for getting bills needed for the implementation of the women’s quota law passed.
Rijiju, while speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, said the House will meet again soon to consider a key legislation.
“We have certain bills and important issues, and we have shared this with the Opposition also. We are going to have a very important bill in the next 2-3 weeks,” he said.
