New Delhi, Oct 2 (PTI) LalitArpan Festival by noted Kathak dancer Shovana Narayan will mark its 25th anniversary by paying homage to 25 dance gurus of Delhi, recognising their contribution to Indian classical dance.

The event, scheduled to be held on October 8-9 at India Habitat Centre’s Stein Auditorium, will be set around the theme of “Tradition, Transition and Transmission” to portray the values of tradition and heritage.

“Twenty-five years of Lalitarpan carry the warmth of shared memories, the devotion of artists and the love of audiences. This year’s presentations celebrate Kathak’s grace, rhythmic vitality and emotional depth. Honouring 25 of Delhi’s seniormost dancer-gurus makes this Silver Jubilee especially meaningful-a heartfelt expression of gratitude to those whose lifelong dedication has nurtured generations of artists. For me, it is a celebration of all we have inherited and the dreams we must continue to nurture,” Narayan told PTI.

As the opening act, artistes will present a production paying homage to 25 veteran dancer gurus of Delhi, including Sonal Mansingh, Raja and Radha Reddy, Uma Sharma, Shashidhar Acharya, Madhavi Mudgal, Ranjana Gauhar, Geeta Chandran, Sharon Lowen, and Aditi Mangaldas.

It will be followed by “Yudhishthir & Draupadi”, a theatrical rendition of Pavan K Varma’s poem by Narayan and theatre veteran Sunit Tandon.

The festival would conclude with a contemporary exploration of companionship, self-respect, and the various aspects of human values through kathak in “Sumang: The Silent Pillars” by Suparna Singh and Mahima Satsangi. It will come to a close with “Noor”, a contemporary and Kathak dance production by Sanjukta Sinha. PTI MAH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
