Ladakh achieves Full Functional Literacy

ULLAS scheme propels union territory past 97% literacy mark.

New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Dr. B.D. Mishra, declared the union territory to have achieved Full Functional Literacy under the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (NILP), following the achievement of a literacy rate exceeding 97%, a PIB press release stated.

A milestone ceremony was being held by the state government in Sindhu Sanskritik Kendra (SSK) in Ladakh. Prizes were being given to the new literates and volunteers by the government and other dignitaries were also present. The ceremony included the felicitation of neo-literates and volunteer teachers and the launch of the Annual Achievement Report 2023 of the school department.

500 new literates and volunteers also took part in the event. The government’s decision to establish full functional literacy under the ULLAS was taken keeping in mind the target of 97 percent literacy rate. It is believed that this will improve the education system of Ladakh. The ULLAS scheme is a step towards improving the education system of Ladakh. Under this scheme, the basic skills of all people are strengthened.
