Haveri (Karnataka), Jul 16 (PTI) Accusing the Congress government in Karnataka of being “anti-Hindu,” state BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Thursday said it will meet a fate similar to the one the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC regime faced during the recent West Bengal Assembly polls.
He said people are questioning whether only minorities voted to bring the Congress government to power.
“In Karnataka for the last three years, ever since the Congress came to power, there have been excesses against Hindus, there has been violence against Hindus…. Looking at such incidences, people are today questioning whether only minorities voted to bring the Congress government to power,” Vijayendra said, addressing a gathering during a protest here.
Accusing the Congress government of minority appeasement and neglecting the Hindu community, he said, “the enlightened citizens of the country will teach a lesson to this anti-Hindu government in the days ahead.” Listing instances of ‘Love Jihad’ and killings of Hindu activists in the state, the BJP chief said no Congress legislators or ministers visited the houses of these victims to console them.
The term ‘Love Jihad’ is used by right-wing groups to allege a conspiracy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into relationships and marriage to convert them to Islam.
“The police system in the state has become a puppet in the hands of the Congress government, and the police stations in the state have become Congress offices,” he said, as he took a dig at Home Minister Priyank Kharge and Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
Alleging that the Congress government’s appeasement politics allowed communal forces to gain the courage to carry out their activities, Vijayendra pointed to the current situation of the “anti-Hindu” Trinamool Congress (TMC), which was in power in West Bengal until recently.
“Hindus faced widespread violence under the Mamata Banerjee-led government for the last few years. In the recent assembly elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP workers rooted out the anti-Hindu TMC government there,” he said.
“Whenever the assembly elections happen in Karnataka, BJP workers in the state have the strength to root out the anti-Hindu Congress government,” he said.
BJP workers would not lose heart under any circumstances, he added.
Targeting CM Shivakumar, accusing him of being “anti-farmer,” Vijayendra alleged that he was more concerned about real estate interests than the welfare of farmers.
“The farmers’ curse will not leave this government,” he said.
Vijayendra said the party must continue to raise its voice for Hindus and farmers and create greater public awareness.
He also announced that the BJP would stage a protest in Bengaluru on Friday against the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township project (GBIT) near Bidadi in Bengaluru South district, as he accused the government of acquiring the land for the project by evicting farmers.
“For the next year and a half (until assembly polls) BJP workers will continue this fight against the anti-Hindu and anti-farmer government and will take their fight against the ruling Congress across the state to all villages and assembly segments,” he added. PTI KSU KH
