Kota (Rajasthan), Jun 19 (PTI) A police constable posted as a driver in the Kota City Police Lines was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 from a complainant to settle a purportedly false police case, officials said on Friday.

Hariom was produced before an ACB court on Friday, which remanded him to judicial custody, they said.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ACB), Kota, Vijay Swarnkar said the constable was caught during a trap operation conducted outside the Udyog Nagar police station on Thursday evening.

According to the ACB, the complainant alleged that his neighbours had lodged a false case against his son at the Udyog Nagar police station.

During the investigation, the accused constable allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 to settle the matter.

The complainant further alleged that Hariom forcibly took Rs 5,000 from him and later continued pressuring him to pay the remaining amount.

During verification proceedings conducted on June 15, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 8,000, thereby confirming the demand for illegal gratification, Swarnkar said.

An ACB team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Anees Ahmed laid a trap and apprehended the constable while he was allegedly accepting Rs 7,000 from the complainant outside the police station, he said.

The accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is underway, the officer said.

Searches conducted at the constable’s residence did not yield any significant recovery, he added. PTI COR SMV SMV MDO MDO
