New Delhi, Apr 21 (PTI) Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday hit out at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his ‘terrorist’ remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling them “condemnable” and an affront to the country’s democratic dignity.
In a post on X, Pradhan said, “The derogatory remark made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not only condemnable but also reflects the completely weakened and degenerate mindset of the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.” He said that using such language for the prime minister amounted to an attack on the mandate of 1.4 billion people.
“The public has already rejected the Congress’s negative and anti-national politics. It is left with no vision, no credible leadership and no agenda in national interest — only lies, misinformation and low-level rhetoric have become its identity,” he said.
Pradhan said that while there is “decisive, nation-first leadership” under Modi, the Congress remains “desperate, directionless and fragmented” in its pursuit of power.
Earlier, addressing a press conference in Chennai alongside AICC general secretary (organisation) K C Venugopal, Kharge accused Modi of “terrorising” political parties and people by misusing government machinery and central agencies to stifle the opposition.
Kharge initially referred to the prime minister as a “terrorist” while criticising the AIADMK’s alliance with the BJP. However, when pressed by reporters to clarify the context of the remark, the Congress chief said he meant the prime minister was “terrorising” the democratic fabric of the country.
“He is terrorising people and political parties. I never said he is a terrorist (in the literal sense). Terrorising this… he is misusing his power and government machinery and abusing, malingering opposition parties,” Kharge said. PTI KSH VN VN
