Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 14 (PTI) Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Benny Behanan on Tuesday criticised social media discussions over the chief ministerial post if the UDF comes to power, asserting that the party high command alone will take the final decision.
The Kerala Assembly elections were held on April 9, with results for all 140 constituencies scheduled to be declared on May 4.
The LDF is aiming for a third term, the UDF for a comeback, and the NDA to open its account in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Behanan described the ongoing debates on social media as “painful” and unnecessary, and urged party workers and supporters to wait for the election results and the leadership’s decision.
He said he has written to the party’s national leadership seeking immediate intervention to stop such discussions by a section of party workers.
“The high command will decide the chief minister. Social media cannot determine such matters,” he said.
Behanan further said that intense social media campaigns projecting potential chief ministerial candidates have caused distress among UDF supporters.
He said such discussions undermine the unity and morale of the party at a crucial time and could diminish the significance of an anticipated electoral victory.
“These activities should stop. They are not beneficial to the Congress and only hurt the party’s prospects,” he added. PTI LGK SSK
